The 2021 line of the Jesus Collection is called Alpha & Omega and takes inspiration from a prominent mosaic in the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis, one of the oldest and grandest cathedrals in the United States. In the image, Jesus Christ has a radiant halo, holds the eucharist, and is surrounded by the Greek symbols for Alpha and Omega. As the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet, alpha and omega are often used to describe Jesus — He is the beginning and the end of human life on Earth. The image is encircled by a Biblical reference to II Timothy 4:7-8: “I have fought a good fight, I have kept the faith.”
The 2021 release is titled “Christ The Light”, inspired by John 1:4 which states “In him was life, and the life was the light of men.”
Pictured on the Reverse side is Jesus, with his raised Blessing Hand gesture, with a sun halo of Light surrounding his head, standing in a Stained Glass window pane. To the side of him is struck the symbol Chi Rho, an early monogram for Christ. On the obverse is the Samoa coat of arms.
The opposite side of the ancient coins in the Samoan Jesus Collection Coin Series is struck with the Samoan coat of arms. The crest includes a shield containing the five stars of the Crux or Southern Cross, a constellation used in seafaring around Samoa, below a verdant green island with a coconut palm. Above the shield is a cross, and around the shield are the concentric circles of the world and the olive branches for peace. The national motto of Samoa, “Fa’avae i Le Atua Samoa” means “God be the Foundation of Samoa.”
What Currency is Used in Samoa?
Samoa, also called the Independent State of Samoa and Western Samoa, uses the Samoan tālā, abbreviated to the code WST or WS$. The term “tālā” is a transliteration of the English word “dollar,” just like the increments of the tālā, the sene, is a transliteration of “cent.” It is important to differentiate this Samoa currency from that of American Samoa, which is an unincorporated U.S. territory that uses the U.S. dollar.
