Common Questions about the Commander Coin Series
Why is the edge of the Commander coin rough?
We take immense pride in crafting high-quality bullion strikes, aiming to deliver exceptional products to our customers at competitive prices. For the Commander Series, symbolizing the rugged lives of the featured commanders, we opted for an open strike (no collar) on the 5-ounce versions.
Typically, coins are struck within a reeded or smooth collar, ensuring a defined and consistent surface and edge. However, our choice to strike without a collar creates a special look on the surface of the coin, it also leaves the edges imperfect and was deliberately chosen to give our coins a distinctive appearance.
This intentional design choice allows the silver to spread out sideways, resulting in a unique coin that sets our pieces apart. Some may view this manufacturing choice as “different from the norm” which is also while Scottsdale Mint is proud that the Commander Series Coins have received high scores by the grading service companies.Â
How do I fix an off center Commander 1 oz gold coin in Certi-Lock?
Our team meticulously ensures that every coin inserted into Certi-Lock is perfectly centered. However, due to shipping and handling during transit, coins may occasionally become misaligned, causing frustration for those eager to display them proudly.
Luckily, there’s a simple solution to realign off-center coins in Certi-Lock. For gold coins, which often come with a foam insert, gently spin the Certi-Lock in quick counterclockwise motions until the coin is centered. Pay attention to the direction the head is spinning and continue until it’s correctly aligned.
My Commander 5 oz Silver Coin capsule got damaged in transit.
Given that the Commander series features rimless coins, there is a slight possibility of forward and backward movement within the coin capsule during transit. This movement can occasionally result in minor abrasive marks on the capsule.
While coin capsules are intended to safeguard the coin and minimize the risk of tarnishing, we provide additional capsules for purchase for those seeking replacements to maintain the pristine display of their coins.Â
